Frequently Asked Questions About Formalwear & Rental Process

1.  I'm not certain how the tuxedo rental process works.  Can you describe the steps involved?

Step 1:  Choose your tuxedo or suit style. Browse, select, and create your preferred style using the Build a Tux online tool: https://www.jimsformalwear.com/myjfw/build-a-tux/styles or, visit our store for personal, expert advice.

Step 2:  Get your proper measurements taken at your local men's store or suit department in any major department store.  That should be done approximately 6-8 weeks before your event.  Find a store near you here: https://www.jimsformalwear.com/stores

Email or fax all information to us, so we can place your order.

Step 3:  Your tuxedo will be ready for pick up on the day of your arrival to South Lake Tahoe.  Visit our store to try on your tuxedo to ensure no last-minute changes need to be made.

Step 4:  Tuxedos need to be returned to our store next business day after the event. Make sure you return all items rented to avoid extra charges.

A credit card number is REQUIRED to order and secure your tuxedo.  Payment is due at time of pick-up. Any cancelations made after the tuxedo has been received at our store (about one week before the event) will be charged to you at half the cost of your order.  If it is April or May the cancelation charge will be full payment of order.  NO REFUNDS! 

2.  My groomsmen are located all throughout the country.  How do I collect their measurements and get the information to your store?

A common scenario you may be facing as you plan your wedding - couple of your groomsmen live in other states.  They are unable to travel to our store to be measured.  How do they get measured for their tuxedo if they are arriving the day before the wedding?  Don't worry!  You can solve this problem by downloading the out-of-town groomsmen measurement form and use this collect the measurements. All measurements needed for the tuxedo order are listed on the form. Have them visit their local Jim’s Formal Wear Retailer and submit measurements to our store. Click here for store locator.

3.  Can I measure myself for a tuxedo rental?

It may seem simple to measure yourself for a tuxedo, but it's important to remember that it's next to impossible to acquire accurate measurements! An inaccurate measurement that may be off by only an inch may get you a tuxedo coat that's one or two sizes too big or small. It's best to count on your Authorized Jim's Formal Wear Retailer to measure you for your formal affair. They have been professionally trained in proper measuring techniques and will be able to acquire the necessary measurements to ensure your tuxedo will fit properly!

4.  I'm trying to match a specific color dress.  Do you offer fabric swatches of your accessories?

We do not manufacture the vests and ties in our rental line, so we do not have excess fabric that we can offer as samples. However, we do have a solution! We do offer pocket squares for sale in all our accessory styles and colors. Pocket squares work great for matching colors, since you can easily carry them with you and keep them handy as you plan your event.
